October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Let’s Play Our Part

Svět Solutions would like to recognize breast cancer awareness month and contribute to the education surrounding the disease. Breast cancer is the most prevalent cancer in the WHO European Region and the main reason why women die from cancer. 576,337 women in the Region had a breast cancer diagnosis in 2020, and 157,111 of them died from the condition. Nearly 2.3 million women who had a breast cancer diagnosis in the previous five years were still alive as of the end of 2020.

Breast cancer awareness month falls in October each year. So what’s important for you to know? Successful treatment is most often determined by early identification. Therefore, it is crucial for all women to be breast aware, or to “know their normal,” and for women in target demographics to be examined through top-notch, structured screening programs. In particular, when the disease is detected early, treatment for breast cancer can be quite successful.

Our involvement at work is a crucial component of social responsibility. Try introducing pink to your workplace. It doesn’t have to be excessive. Get pink lanyards for an upcoming event or pink-ribboned envelopes for a simple adjustment with a big impact. Pink pens and highlighters can be a charming addition, as can other small pink accents placed throughout the office.

The use of a support board, writing letters of encouragement to those battling breast cancer, or even notes to survivors or departed loved ones, could all be encouraged among your staff members.

The National Breast Cancer Foundation, Inc. and American Cancer Society are two great places to learn more about breast cancer, and they have provided the information below.

  • Breast cancer is the most common cancer for women worldwide
  • 1 in 8 women receive a breast cancer diagnosis
  • On average, every 2 minutes a female is diagnosed with breast cancer
  • 1 woman will die of breast cancer every 13 minutes
  • Alcohol use increases the risk of breast cancer
  • Over 3.3 million breast cancer survivors are alive in the U.S. today
  • An estimated 2,470 men will be diagnosed with breast cancer

Providing your staff with this information could save a life. Send them a newsletter, let people know about this blog, or print a list to post in the break room. Let’s do our part in addressing the important issues; it might make all the difference to someone.
